What We Build

Does Iberia Habitat Give Houses Away?

What Is Iberia Habitat for Humanity?

About Us

  • No, Habitat for Humanity is not a giveaway program. Habitat's partner families buy the houses that Habitat builds or renovates.

  • In Iberia Parish, Habitat homeowners purchase their houses through affordable monthly mortgage payments.

  • Habitat's homeowners also invest hours of their own labor, called sweat equity, working alongside volunteers and other Habitat homeowners.

Habitat for Humanity houses are simple, decent and affordable to low- income families in Iberia Parish.

Whenever possible, we build sustainable, energy-efficient and healthy housing.

Habitat Guidelines: 2 bedroom= 950 Sq Feet

                               3 bedroom= 1050 Sq Feet

                               4 bedroom= 1150 Sq Feet including                                                                   2 full baths

Critical Home Repair /  A Brush with Kindness

  • Iberia Habitat is a nonprofit, Christian housing ministry. Our mission is to put God's love into action by bringing people together to build or repair homes, communities and hope.

  • We believe that every person should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live.

  • Iberia Habitat builds with people in need regardless of race or religion.

  • We welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds.

How It's Possible

How are Iberia Habitat family homeowners chosen?

Donations to Iberia Habitat for Humanity provide vital financial support to help us build and repair houses.

In addition, we welcome volunteers to build with us under trained supervision.

  • While our new home construction program focuses on helping families become first time home buyers, our home repair program serves the needs of current home owners.

  • The Critical Home Repair program helps low-income homeowners who are affected by age, disability or family circumstances and struggle to maintain the integrity of their homes. Through Critical Home Repair, they are able to reclaim the interior of their homes with pride and dignity.

  • A Brush with Kindness is a home repair preservation program that helps families maintain the exterior of their homes so they can improve their living conditions and the sense of pride in their neighborhood.

  • The Critical Home Repair program is not an emergency repair program. Habitat is not able to do major repairs such as foundation and roof repair.

  • Families in need of decent, affordable housing may apply by contacting the office. An application can be picked up or mailed to you.

  • Each application is reviewed by the family selection committee. Homeowners are hosed based on three criteria:

    • The family's level of need.

    • Their willingness to become partners in the program.

    • Their ability to repay the loan through an affordable payment plan.

  • Neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing Habitat's homeowner families.
